This is Bradford's first community garden, it is meant to be the focal point of the neighborhood.
As part of the project volunteers will present an on-going series of classes on a wide variety of gardening topics.
The garden's construction is carried out under the auspices of Bradford's Office of Community Development (OECD). It is part of Pennsylvania's Elm Street project, rejuvenating neighborhoods throughout the state.
Facade Improvement
The Facade Grant Program provides matching funds for exterior improvements to properties within the Elm Street Project Area (see Elm Street Facade Guidelines). This program utilizes funding received from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Elm Street Program to serve as an incentive to stimulate private investment in facade renovations.
Housing Rehab
The City of Bradford has in place a housing rehabilitation program that assists homeowners with home repairs with priority consideration given to homeowners in the Elm Street Neighborhood. The City's housing rehabilitation program addresses BOCA housing code violations. The funds are used for a wide variety of rehabilitation needs including new heating systems, electrical, plumbing, foundations and porches, roofs, exterior siding or painting, bathrooms/kitchens and safety (smoke detectors, hot water tank relief valves).
Streetscape
As part of over $900K in street improvements, crews milled Cole Avenue, removed crumbling sidewalks and curbs, poured new walks, and curbs with accessible ramps, paved Cole Avenue, and installed new lighting.
